The Pearson Test of English is a computer-based academic English language test aimed at non-native English speakers wanting to study and settle abroad. It tests Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. PTE Academic is a multi-level test, like IELTS, TOEFL and TOEIC. Typically, PTE Academic results are available within five business days.
Pearson Test of English General (PTE General) is a six-level general English test. All levels of PTE General are recognised globally and are accepted by employers and national education authorities in many countries as evidence of a required level of English. The six levels of the test are provided in partnership with Edexcel Limited, the largest UK awarding body for academic and vocational qualifications.
The test takes approximately three hours to complete. This includes an un-timed introduction to the test and one optional scheduled break of up to 10 minutes. There are three timed parts:
- Speaking and writing
- Reading
- Listening
Each part may contain a number of sections. Each section is individually timed.
PTE Academic is accepted by thousands of universities worldwide, with the most popular being the UK, Australia, the US and Canada, including prestigious institutions such as Harvard Business School, INSEAD and Yale. PTE Academic is also accepted for visa purposes by the Australian government.

The PTE Academic can be taken at more than 200 test center locations in over 50 countries. Exact dates and frequency of test sessions vary. A full list of test centers can be found at the PTE website, where you can also check the availability of places for upcoming test sessions.

ACCEPTABLE ID
If you are taking the test in India, you must present your passport as ID, regardless of your country of citizenship. There are no exceptions to this policy. Please ensure you can provide a valid passport on the day of your test, or you will not be able to take PTE Academic.
